Leadsingle/Photo-Shooting 

The leadsingle was choosen by Edel-Mega this Friday. This information is based by the canadian acer Mark Gershkovich. The title and a pre-listen will be on the official homepage www.aceofbase.com shortly. Yesterday I couldn`t get any informations to the singles from the german label Polydor because their office is moving from Hamburg to Germany. Next week we will get more informations to the leadsingle. The first photo-shooting to the new album and the first single is finished. It took place in Sweden...

new album/"Unspeakable" 

Today I had a phonecall with the german label Polydor and they told me some things about the plans of the new album and gave me some confirmations. The album will be released at the end of September 2002, the first single at the beginning of September. The radio-release will be in the middle of July 2002! At this moment there are only 2 songs for the decision of the first single. They will decide within the next week! The photosessions will be in the next week too, the produce of the video will be in July. And now the confirmation: "Unspeakable" is a new song of Ace of Base and will be on the new album! But the song wont be the first single. In time to come Polydor and the german fansite will work together. There could be raffles, promotions or presenting of new material of the band like covers, pictures ... We will have a conversation again in July ... let you surprise ... timetable: til 28th June - the decision for the first single, photosessions July - radiorelease of the first single, making the video beginning of September - single-release end of September - release of the album

Here are the official news from Edel/Mega-Records about the new album: Copenhagen, May 31st, 2002 - In late September this year, Ace of Base are going to release their long awaited, yet to be titled new studio album. The 1st single of the album is scheduled to hit European radio in July. The multi-platinum act has a long-term recording contract with edel-mega records A/S, Copenhagen, a subsidiary of Hamburg/Germany based edel music AG. edel is representing Ace of Base in the Nordic countries, while Ace of Base is exclusively licensed to Polydor/Universal Music Germany for Europe and a number of other territories. In Romania and Russia the song "Show Me Love" is released as a promo-single to the radiostations. In Russia the release was on 04th April.2002 for the radio. In Romania the single entered the charts of Radiocontact on place 20. Ulf Ekberg said to the swedish newspaper Expressen following facts about the new album.The album will be released in autumn this year. Ace of Base will finally be able to release the album. For the long time of waiting there is one reason. They redid the songs to get a better sound. In the summer they will make a video and photosessions. After then the release of the album is planned for autumn 2002. Till now they had not decided about the first single and the title of the album ...

New album 

Following sentences published the canadian acer Mark Gershkovich today. It includes some news about the situation of the band in America and Japan and some news about the upcoming album: It's Official, Ace of Base have NO record labels in the America's! This includes, USA, Canada, Mexico and Japan. I spoke to a representive who worked in promotions at what was Edel Records America and he told me that YES it was true that Arista Records in fact did drop Ace Of Base, because Jonas did not want to deal with them anymore! Jonas wanted to try Edel America and see how they would promote their new material. Well it was all a go, Edel America was ready to send the first single out to radio in Sept 2001, and the album in early Nov 2001. But this all came to a crash when Edel Records America went bankrupt and had to close it offices down. Unfortunately Ace Of Base went down with it. All plans to release the album and single went down the tubes. What he told me is that now Ace Of Base are free to go to ANY RECORD LABEL of their choice in the America's. About the album, he said that the material is just incredible!  He said that "Da Capo" was going to be the second single released, however he did not tell me what the first single released would have been. I asked him about "Show Me Love", "Please Don't Stop', "Hey Darling", "Cuba Cuba", "Summer Days", and "Acers". He says "Cuba Cuba" and "Hey Darling" did not make it to the album. But he listened to all the completed songs and he says that their new material is just incredible, and that hardcore and the general public will love their new material. He calls this album their "COMEBACK" album!"

New Album 

After Jonas`interview the band-manager Lasse Karlsson said some words to Expressen about the current situation: Ace of Base's new album will come. But it will take some time. -The group has had some bad luck with record companies and change of partners, says Lasse Karlsson, manager of the Gothenburg band. Ace of Base will have to wait. But the new record will come. First, the three record companies will have to coordinate their interests. It's all about Edel, which covers Scandinavia, Arista where Ace of Base is licenced for USA, Canada, Latin America and Japan and Universal, that has responsibility for the rest of the world. -I know that Universal wants to release a single as soon as possible. In these circumstances we're talking about two or three months, Lasse Karlsson explains. A wait that Jonas Berggren, songwriter in Ace of Base, considers too long. -It takes time, Lasse Karlsson admits. -But it's not too strange that it turns out this way. Universal wasn't let in on this until November. Universal the most important Multinational Universal is important in the process of releasing the record. -Because they are the ones with the major market shares in the world, Lasse Karlsson explains. He has been the manager of the group since the breakthrough in 1993. He's the central point in the relations between the band and the record companies. -The last years they've has a bit of bad luck with record companies that have been bought and changed staff and partners in the middle of the releases. But that the band lacks information about what's happening, is something that Lasse Karlsson can't agree with. -Only one week ago we met Jonas Berggren and his attorney. Then the fact that things are very still and there isn't much to report, is another thing. *Is Ace of Base still important for the record to come out? -Definitely. They said too, that releasing for the next weeks does not exist, but they confirmed, that the album is planned for a releasing this year in Germany.

New Album

A releasing of the new album is not known at this moment. Why you will read on the following translation from a swedish article of www.expressen.se, which had an interview with Jonas Berggren: No-one is getting to hear Ace Of Base's New Album GOTHENBURG. Ace OF Base have sold over 30 million albums. But right now the Group from Gothenburg isn't selling even one single. Despite the fact that they ahve had finished material ready for an album since last autumn(fall). "It's pure Wild West. We aren't getting any information at all," says Jonas Berggren and points toward communication with the band's record labels. In the autumn(fall) of 1999 the best of album "Singles of the 90s" came out. The year before that "Flowers". But since then not a lot as happened on the album front for Ace Of Base. Now the band memebers are growing tired of long-winded record-company deliberations. "We Have material for a double CD," explains Jonas Berggren. But it appears that something like that won't happen. Though we have had the tracks recorded since autumn/the fall. The group is waiting for the record company to decide which tracks will be on the album and what it's sound is to be. Not getting any information So far no information has come from the record company. Something which Jonas Berggren has grown tired of. "We ought to have had priority in in the rendering of it. There are far too many people who think they know best in this industry," he says irritatedly. "The only album where we have been able to decide for ourselves was our first. It would undeniably be great to be able to get enough faith to be able to do that again." Jonas Berggren speaks with respect to 1993's album success "Happy Nation", which sold over 20 million copies. A record where Ace Of Base's so distinctive sound was spread around the world. A lot of time with the children. " But I'm not crying. My children won't be on in repeats. The last couple of years I have only worked to about 20 procent, so I have had a lot of time with them," explains Jonas Berggren who is happy with this existence. Ace Of Base are bound by contract to four record companies throughout the world. But according to Jonas Berggren none of these are slave contracts. "We have agreements. But they aren't written in a way that we are obliged to anything." Wouldn't it be best then to start up their own company and be independant? "That could be a better solution. But I don't know whether any of us has it in them to get something like that going. We are worn out after having done recordings for three years." Always Have, Always Will - The Sign

The Song Always Have, Always Will is on the radio-station NDR2 in Germany in the list of the most 100 wished songs this time. The song was released in spring 1999 in Germany and was the last single of the album "Flowers". The song "The Sign" is used from McDonalds as the background-music for a commercial in California. "The Sign" was a No.-1-Hit in the USA for some weeks!

Last week Mega moved to the tower of Edel in Copenhagen. With this finally act to integrate Mega on Edel Claes will have new duties and responsibilities:  "...A lot of changes are taking place, as Mega's publishing affiliate Megasong Publishing is being sold off by Edel. Megasong has always been my primary task here, besides many other things as well and as a result of the sale, I'll be either joining whatever company buys it or do something else while retaining consultancy work for Edel-Mega, this including Ace Of Base...." "DC" 

Some new stuff is given by Edel to the canadian Acer Mark Gershkovich. A new song with the initials "DC" is recorded by Ace of Base for the new album. The initials means "Da Capo"! This details are confirmed by Claes Cornelius from Mega. The sound is very similar to Dr. Sun and Travel To Romantis.

New Album/Aftonbladet 

In Aftonbladet, a swedish newspaper, the following article with some "news" about the forthcoming album was released today. The manager Lasse Karlsson confirmed, that the album will be released in Spring 2002 and will include songs from 20 recorded songs. He also mentioned that the sound will be the Reggae-Pop like on the first album. The most songs are written by Jonas with the help of Jonas van der Burg (C`est La Vie always 21) and Harry Sommerdahl. In 4 days the European Music Award will start. This was a reason for MTV Germany to send the show from 1994 in Berlin with the appearance of Ace of Base and "Living In Danger" on Sunday. Ace of Base was also nominated for the best cover-version.

The candian Acer Mark Gershkovich gave the fans in the last news some new informations about the forthcoming album from a good friend from Edel! One recorded song has the initials "OD" - Mark confirmed that these initials mean "Ordinary". Germany and America - these are the countries with new releasings in November! Yesterday there was a meeting between MegaRecords and the band in Copenhagen. Theme was the the forthcoming album. The label wants to try to release the new album within 2001! Official Statement by Claes Cornelius: Following a big meeting in Copenhagen yesterday, we will all still strive to get the next album done in time for a release within 2001 even though we can offer no real guarantees yet. Some new old things to the new album were wold by Claes Cornelius in Teenage Heaven. Here they are:  While more & more tracks actually land on our desks in near-finished form right now, we are still very much unsure as to a possible release date of an initial single. The album has to be totally completed (or as near to completion as possible) before selecting exactly which single is to be the first... Right now, it is unfortunately very possible that the next album is to be a 2002 release but the aim is still to make it the very ultimate Ace Of Base album. The somngs that are getting completed now sound humongously huge in terms of the production with most complex arrangements and supreme sonics in the mix... As ever, stay tuned!! This only means following: We have to wait and wait ... since more than 1 year to get the new "ultimate" album.

There are existing plans for the releasing of the new album. Claes Cornelius sent to some fans an e-mail, that the leadsingle will be released in August 2001. The album will follow some weeks later! These plans were confirmed by a member of the MCG-Team (official Ace of Base-Homepage from Mega). He told me, that the leadsingle will be released this summer. The date will be determine by the band-members!

During the waiting for the new album there is one good message about "Singles of the 90s". In Denmark the Best-Of-Album was sold more than 50.000 units! This means, that the album has platinum!

Today, Jörgen from the studio The Barn gave a short report aboutthe actual doing of Ace of Base. They are recording the songs again. But the work to the album is getting closer. He said too, that the songs are great and incredible good! The releasing in autumn is possible!

After rumours and discussion about a possible new label for Ace of Base in America, Mega Records gave a statement to this theme: *** Offizial Statement (Claes Cornelius, Mega)*** Despite various rumors, Arista is still AOB's and Mega's representative in the States. All of this is also highly contractual and legal, all defined by lengthy agreements in writing. Whenever the album has been readied, a copy of it will be sent to Arista that then will evaluate what to do: to release or to step out of the deal (in which case AOB would be free to sign with whatever other motívated record label there could be at that point in time). Clive Davis at J Records is yet again proving to have a flair for talent, as the O Town hits big now - a move to J Records could thus happen, as Davis was the one to sign AOB for the Arista deal but this is highly theoretical right now. Besides, the word from Stockholm is "this is going to be the best album ever for AOB!"... Anywayz, time will tell!

New Album

Claes Cornelius from MegaRecords posted on Teenage Heaven, that the recording of the new album is on a good way and will be finished soon. Ace of Base worked on the songs, especially on the recording of the vocals. In this fact he also mentioned, that the fans won`t be disappointed by Linn! SHE IS BACK!

Arista

Arista won`t release the next album of Ace of Base in America. This fact Mark Gershkovich got from Arista directly. This mean, that Ace of Base can release their 5th album with a new label and will get a good base of a comeback in America, after the bad promotion of Greatest Hits through Arista. But till now it is only a romour, because it is not confirmed by the license-label MegaRecords.

Yesterday Claes Cornelius from MegaRecords sent an official posting on Teenage Heaven about the results of the meeting. First the half of all songs are finished. A releasings-date is still to be determined. He also mentioned the initials "CC", a possible songs of the new album.

In an official statement from Edel, Scandinavia to Mark Gershkovich the release-date of the new album is fixed to autumn 2001. The leadsingle will be released in October 2001. The first plans of MegaRecords contained the March 2001 as the releasedate of the album!

The release of the new album and the leadsingle are delayed from MegaRecords and Edel to this summer! This news are confirmed officially by Claes Cornelius and Rune and was told to the fans by Mark Gershkovich, who has a direct contact to Edel. That the release-plans are not possible, that is no surprise. Claes wrote on his statement (Jan 01), that a good album needs time. The meeting about the new album is next week. That means, that the singls couldn`t release before the end of February. Now Mega decided to delay the album to the summer 2001. We will see.

Jonas posted on "Teenage Heaven" of www.aceofbase.net some new informations about the new album! The recording is finished and there will be a meeting next week in Gothenburg with the labels listening to 14 finished songs. Maybe the album will contains 14 songs. He also mentioned that it could happen, that Arista or Universal wants to add songs from other writers or producers outside the band. The sound of the songs is the typical old aob-sound with a touch of 2000 in it! Jonas`statement: Next week we`re having a meeting in Gothenburg listening to the songs finished (not mixed all yet though) they`re around 14 now depending of who you ask. I see the album almost finished but maybe Arista or Universal wants to add a couple of songs written from other writers outside the band. Let`s see! I`m very happy with the blend of songs on the album, most classic Ace of Base with a touch of 2000 in it and very little shuffle ... see you, JONAS

New Album

Ace of Base is hard working on the new album now. Claes Cornelius and Jörgen from the studio "The Barn" said to the acer the last album news. Now different productions-team are hard-working on the new songs to complete the new album in a perfect way. They also said, that a good work needs time. So it is not impossible that the release-date will be displaced. Here are the plans for releasing the new album til now: January/February 2001 - Radio-Releasing of the leadsingle March/April 2001 - Releasing of the album. -official statements: Jörgen: The last line in my post means that: If you are waiting for something good, you are always waiting far too long. The studiowork are in full progress this week and we think something really good will come out of this. We are sorry for all delays, but we vould like to have it all perfect before it is released. Any release dates will be told by Claes later. Claes: As Jörgen already stated, things take time, different production teams are involved in different studios, etc., etc... Anywayz, Jonas gave me a call and was very happy about the progress made and looking forward to the completion of the album.

German "Cruel Summer"-Album

Last year there was the rumour, that an album with the title "Cruel Summer" would be released in Germany. The rumours based on the shops, which had the album on their CD-list. Some of these shops were "MediaMarkt", Amazon or JPC. The bad thing was, that the trader couldn`t order the album. The releasing was stopped. Now you will find on the homepage from www.universal-music.de the album on Ace of Base`s discography-list from their albums. The release-date was the 19th June 2000. This is the finally confirmation for existing of this album. It lost the fake-character. I for myself got this album from an auction on ebay from a man who works on the musician scene.

Jennys TV-Appearance

The TV-Show was sent on 23rd December 2000 on SVT 2 and was taped on September this year. The lyrics are available on the website too.

"Hey Darling"

In June this year Jonas mentioned on a chat-session the initials of 2 songs, "HD" and "CC". Last week he was on chat on www.aceofbase.net , too and said the words for the initials "HD" - it is "Hey Darling". Perhaps the song will be on the new album, but a releasing of this song as a commercial single is not decided from the label til now. He also mentioned, that Linn will be seen more on the promotion-appearances and will be more involved on the front of the group.

Välsignelsen	On 23th of December this year Jenny Berggren and her boyfriend Jacob Petren will appear on swedish TV SVT1 with 6 songs, written by Jenny and Jacob. Leadsingle New album Claes Cornelius confirmed a rumour of the last weeks: "so far it seems likely that there will be a single release according to plans, end of January / beginning of February - the actual title is not yet earmarked, however, but is presumably among the 5-6 songs currently being worked on (vocals are what is being done right now)..." Til June this year Ace of Base placed the producerteam 50 songs. 20 of it are possible for the new album. The album will only contain 12 songs. 2 initials were called by Jonas on a chat with "CC" and "HD".

The European Music Awards Yesterday was the greatest Music-Show of this year, the european music awards, in Stockholm. And Ace of Base was also a theme of these awards. ULf was seen on the preview-show on Cafe Opera in Stockholm arm-in-arm with Jason Priesley. Wyclef Jean opened the show with a rap of "The Sign". Ace of Base was also mentioned on a speech for an award..

Jenny on TV Like in June this year Jenny will appear in December on a swedish TV-Show to sing some christmas songs with other artists. Jenny was on June on SVT1 with her boyfriend Jacob Petrén and sang the songs "Give me the Faith", Bridge over troubled Water" and "Tvivel".

New Album

Jonas went to Stockholm last wednesday to work on the new songs. Til today he could work on 4 songs (background, arrangements, sound). Soon they will start doing the vocals. It looks like they do Linns vocal in Jonas`studio and Jennys in different ones in Stockholm.

Ace of Base in USA

Last week Ace of Base were mentioned on some interviews on TV and radio in the USA:

On "Spin City" (ABC Television) recently Charlie Sheen made a remark about Ace of Base. He told something to the effect of having the words Ace of Base tattooed on his butt (being the only thing he remembers about 1994). 1994 was The year of Ace of Base.

On "Popular" (airs in syndication), the character of Brooke McQueen mentioned Ace of Base as being one of her likes.

On "Entertainment Tonight" (airs in syndication) was mentioned that Kathie Lee Gifford's new single was produced by the team behind Aqua and Ace of Base. The team "Johnny Jam & Delgado".

New album

Claes Cornelius posted on "Teenage Heaven" that Ace of Base is still hard working on the new album. Last week Mega Records received some material of the songs on CD-R`s and in MP3. The release in Europe by Mega Records is still the March 2001.

Jonas

Some months ago it was the last time for Jonas to get in contact online with the fans. Now he is back and wrote the following phrases on "Teenage Heaven". He also was in chat today.

"Tomorrow evening I'm going to Stockholm work on some new tracks for the 5th album. Sorry the releases always take so long time, We're our best from our side, politic reasons and uncapility always comes in between...

Arista

This week there are romours about a disbandment of the contract with Arista. But MegaRecords didn`t confirm it. Although Claes Cornelius explained the situation with Arista. Arista has only the option to release a new album. If they won`t make use of this option, Ace of Base is free for a contract with an other label in America. We will see, what Arista will do.

New Album/Spain

On 6th October Paul from the official spain fanclub posted following official news on "Teenage Heaven". These are official news, because UNIVERSAL-Spain confirmed it. The radio airplay of the first song with the initials "HD" will start on March 2001. The single will be released on March 2001 too. The album will follow in June 2001. "HD" is a song with metallic sound and is sung by Malin and a rap by Ulf. A coverversion of Yaki-Das "Show me Love" (Producer: Jonas) will be on the new album. These are news, especially the dates are official for Spain. The plans for the other countries can be other!

The official statement from Claes Cornelius about these infromations from Paul and Universal Spain:

While everyone's waiting for confirmable facts, there are still rumors as to singles, album dates, etc.

As to the news relayed by the Spanish AOB fan club, the only bit of info that can be confirmed is that there has been work on a version of "Show Me Love", which is one of the many songs up for consideration - whether or not it actually makes it to the album remains however to be seen.

There is no "Happy Days" track, BTW, and the masterplan is still envisaging a release of the album in March or at beginning of April.

[...] While there are tracks coded HD or CC, none of the title guesses so far have been ANYWHERE close to the mark, including UMG's if they also participated to this massive guessing game. I am not a liberty to reveal titles, so you won't be getting any details (sorry) until the album title line up is 100% confirmed
(and then again, there may be territorial variations in tracks, Euro/US differences as usual). [...] The actual tracks slated for album inclusion will, as usual for ANY artist, be decided at the very last possible moment, on the merit of the mixes - at that point only will the first single be earmarked for release. So, in the light of the above, you'll have to face the fact that song titles will not be divulged at this point.

German "Cruel Summer"-Album

Last week I got the CD "Cruel Summer" from a bid on the german site of Ebay. But it is not the US-Version of "Flowers", that I wanted to get. I got an album, which was released in 2000 by the german label Polydor. Allthough I don`t know if it is an official release by Polydor. Polydor didn`t confirm the CD as a release til yet. The seller works at a music-company and has the chance to get some rare material.  

In June this year various CD-shops (MediaMarkt, EP...) listed the CD "Cruel Summer" as a new release in Germany. 1 week before releasing Polydor didn`t confim any orders from the shops. The release was stopped. Perhaps this CD was planned to be released in Germany. Perhaps.

New Album

During his holidays on Croatia Ulf Ekberg told in an interview some things about the new album. The band recorded more than 50 songs til July this year at the barn. 20 of this 50 songs will be possible for the new album with 12 tracks. Now the producers are making some versions of the songs. The most of the produers didn`t work with Ace of Base in past. Ulf also said that the new sound will not be the same like on the first 3 albums. The new album will be released in March 2001.

Greatest Hits

Some news about Ace of Base and Arista. Arista published the sold-units in North America to the canadian Acer Mark Gershkovich. The first Best of-Album were bought from more then 49.000 people in the last 5 months! That is a little success in North America, because "Cruel Summer" with 1 Top10-Single was sold only more than 125.000 units.

New Album

The releasing of the new album will be on March 2001, possibly. This fact is not confirmed by official statements. The first releasing-date was the end of 2000. The single should come out in august or september this year. This was said by Jonas on a chat in June 2000.

RadioShow dedicated to Ace of Base

In the morning of the 6th August a German channel from Herne made a ReadioShow dedicated to Ace of Base with a duration of 2,5 hours! The DJ said, that that they were formed 10 Years ago and that they have made a new way of Pop Music. They played the following songs: "All That She Wants"," Beautiful Life", "Don`t Turn around", "Lucky Love", "Wheel Of Fortune", "Life Is A Flower", "The Sign", "Cruel Summer", "Always Have, AlwaysWill", "Everytime It Rains" and "Cèst La Vie always 21". At the end of the show he said, that he hopes, that the band will release their next single in the middle of SEPTEMBER! This meesage was posted by Michael (Germany) on Teenage Heaven.

TV-Appearance of Jenny

Last Sunday (07/30/2000) Jenny had her first appearance on TV for some months ago. The religious TV-show was shown on channel SVT1. She gave an interview and performed 3 songs - "Give Me The Faith" (Lyrics: Jenny, Music: Jacob Petrén), "Bridge Over The World" (Music & Lyrics: Paul Simon) and "Tvivel" (Doubt) (Music & Lyrics: Jacob Petrén). The piano played her boyfriend Jacob Petrén! The show had a duration of 30 minutes and will be repeated at the 6th August. Arista

The canadian acer Mark Gershkovich posted on Teenage Heaven, that Arista still is the label of Ace of Base in North and South America and will release the new stuff of them in time to come. Though Arista will not release new material in America in the next months. Mark also said, that "C`est La Vie always 21" would be released in America, if the first single "Everytime It Rains" would have success, but it didn`t. Though Arista sent out some PromoCDs to promote "Greatest Hits" nevertheless.
